490 First narrative report of adverse events from the cutaneous procedures adverse events reporting (CAPER) registry

The Cutaneous Procedures Adverse Events Reporting (CAPER) Registry is a patient safety database that collects data on adverse events associated with procedures performed by dermatologists, non-dermatologist physicians, and non-physicians. Included are skin cancer surgery, laser, cosmetic procedures. A steering committee composed of board-certified clinicians, researchers from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association (ASDSA) Northwestern Department Dermatology developed CAPER Event Report Form adapting existing similar entry forms used in other medical registries. total 54 cases 83 (AEs) 18 types cutaneous were reported March 2021 to November 2022. AEs non-physician-conducted included large, circular, hypopigmented scars; second degree burns; permanent discoloration; bullae developing into ulcers. physician-conducted erosion ulcers, excessive swelling bluish discoloration tear trough. Non-physician-conducted higher proportion severe (31.3%) compared dermatologist-conducted (11.8%).
